Tine
the left or right side/half of the nib formed by the cutting of the slit; most nibs have two tines, music nibs have three.

Slit
the thin channel in a pen's nib that allows ink to flow from the feed to the writing tip. The slit is made after the iridium is fused to the nib.
Slide cap
a writing instrument cap that is non-threaded and slides onto the barrel to close the pen or to post it on the end of the pen in preparation for writing.
Screw cap
a writing instrument cap that is threaded and thus screws onto the barrel to close the pen or to post it on the end of the pen in preparation for writing.
Rollerball
a contemporary writing instrument that, like a ballpoint pen, uses a ball bearing-style writing tip; however, a rollerball pen uses a cartridge filled with water-based ink as opposed to oil-based ballpoint inks.
