Bulgari
The Product
Every Bulgari creation is permeated with a spirit of excellence. The Bulgari jewels take shape first as a watercolor or tempera drawing. The subsequent transformation of a drawing into a finished jewel is left to the skilled hands of artisans, whose job it is to produce a jewel of extraordinary softness, round-ness, polish and perfection. From the very first drawing, the idea is analyzed and developed creatively, so as to assess the materials and colors that are most suitable for its creation, wear-ability and coherence with the Bulgari tradi-tion and style.
All Bulgari watches are created at Bulgari Time in Neuchâtel, Switzerland, produced and examined accord-ing to strict and rigorous Swiss certification criteria, a guarantee of high quality. Bulgari has chosen to exersise direct control over each phase of the creation, production, and dis-tribution of its perfumes through Bulgari Parfums, based in Switzerland. Bulgari also controls the cre-ation, production and distribution of its silk and leather products by working very closely with the manufacturing companies located in Italy. Bulgari’s great relationship with Luxottica’s product develop-ment team has resulted in the creation of an innova-tive and refined eyewear collection.
Bulgari also manufactures ballpoint pens, me-chanical pencils, purse pens and rollerballs made from sterling silver and cotton resin; and rollerballs and ballpoint pens in sterling silver and celluloid, available in a variety of elegant colors.
Service to the client is also a Bulgari prerogative. Personnel in every Bulgari store are trained with the objective of bringing the same standard of excellence as that found at the flagship store on via Condotti. Furthermore, retailers are carefully selected to guar-antee the same impeccable service standards offered in the Bulgari stores.
For over a century, Bulgari has been setting the pace for Italian style. Its forward-looking creative spirit has never ceased to draw inspiration from the timeless beauty of Greek and Ro-man art, giving it a truly contem-porary touch. The Bulgaris descend from an ancient family of Greek sil-versmiths whose activity began in the small village of Epirus, where Sotirio Bulgari, the founder of the company, made precious objects in silver. In the mid-19th century Sotirio emigrated to Italy, where he opened his first shop, in 1884, on via Sistina in Rome. With the help of his sons, Costantino and Giorgio, he inaugurated the shop on via Condotti in 1905, which is still Bulgari’s flagship store.
During the first decades of the twentieth century, the two brothers developed a passionate interest in pre-cious stones and jewels, gradually taking over their father’s role.
The 1970s marked the beginning of Bulgari’s in-ternational expansion with the opening of its first overseas store in New York, then in Paris, Geneva and Monte Carlo.
In the early 1990s, Bulgari Parfums was estab-lished in Switzerland. In 1997, Bulgari introduced its first collection of silk scarves. The first collection of leather bags and eyewear were launched in 1998, while table and giftware were launched in 1999.
Today, Paolo Bulgari and Nicola Bulgari, respective-ly chairman and vice-chairman, together with their nephew Francesco Trapani, chief executive officer, manage the company’s development with the goal of better serving an international market.
