Chopard
Chopard has proved itself to be a dynamic and creative company. Louis-Ulysse Chopard was born on May 4, 1836, into the world of watches. As one of two sons of Félicien Chopard, he grew up near the watchmaking region of La Chaux de Fonds. The first watchmakers had settled there as early as 1730, and it may be assumed that Félicien was in some way involved in the watchmaking craft. The young
Chopard set himself up as an independent watchmaker in 1860, when he was only 24 years old.
Sixty years after the founding of the company, in 1920, it set up business in Geneva; and over a century after its inception, the business was bought by Karl Scheufele in 1963. Nowadays, Karl and Karin Scheufele’s children, Karl-Friedrich and Caroline are co-presidents responsible for the production and design of all Chopard products. Paul-André Chopard, grandson of the founder, stayed on in the business following the acquisition, as an advisor, until he died in 1968.
In 1975, Chopard expanded its collection to include ladies watches and jewelry, producing diamond timepieces and stunning jewelry. In 1988, Chopard became involved with the Italian road race “Mille Miglia” and created a watch of the same name. Each year the company produces a watch in honor of the famed event. In 1996, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele created the L.U.C. manufacture in Fleurier, Valley of the Jura, in order to develop and produce their own high-quality movements for men’s watches.
Chopard has an extensive range of products, including perfume, eyewear, leather, silk scarves, china and silverware. The company has expanded its offerings still further with the 2005 introduction of luxury fountain pens. They are available in a variety of distinct styles, within two primary collections: Twister and Racing. Thus innovation remains the byword of the House of Chopard.
Developed in collaboration with the Italian manufacturer Stipula, the Twister collection is set to be the latest trend in luxury pens. Twister is a retractable-nib fountain pen. A simple twist exposes the nib for writing. The absence of a clip makes the pen perfect for people on the go—no need or time to fasten the pen to shirt or pocket.
The Racing collection sport a tire-tread motif on either the gripping section or the barrel of the pen as well as the cap crown. The Racing collection is available as a fountain pen, rollerball or ballpoint pen. And if anyone thinks that road racing is just for the male segment of the population, think again. There is a pink version of Racing that is intended specifically for women.
The new Chopard writing instruments are a unique and attractive addition to the brand’s core products of watches and jewelry.
