Giuliano Mazzuoli

Located in the hills of Tuscany that surround Florence, the company produces unique and high-quality objects under the Giuliano Mazzuoli brand name. For three generations the company has produced products characterized by an untiring pursuit of the high standards of quality craftsmanship, design innovation and creativity typically associated with products made in Italy.
In the early 1970s, when Giuliano Mazzuoli took over the business his father had founded, he modernized the company. Giuliano Mazzuoli is now famous worldwide for the originality of
his design.

The Product
Mazzuoli’s grandfather had a workshop in the 1920s, where he constructed bicycles. During his childhood, Mazzuoli came across a dusty old wooden box, finding the precious tools from his grandfather’s workshop. Forty years later, Mazzuoli visited a modern mechanical workshop and encountered similar tools from his childhood memories.

The rediscovery of these tools are commemorated in a collection of pens called Officina Writing instruments. “Officina” means “workshop” in Italian. With different dimensions, they do not follow the traditional structure of a pen. Each of the styles, manually milled from a solid bar of aluminum, is named for a mechanical tool: Maschio (Tap), Puntino (Marker Point), Madrevite (Thread), Micrometro (Micrometer), Alesatore (Reamer) and Fresa Cilindrica (End Mill). Since designing his first pen, Mazzuoli’s focus has been on taking everyday objects
and transforming them into something different.

The Officina pen comes in rollerball, ballpoint, graphite pencil, and fountain pen versions in brushed or
polished aluminum.

The inspiration for the Moka line came to Mazzuoli while he was talking on the telephone in his office and sketching randomly with his pencil. He realized afterward that what he had sketched was the famous coffeemaker designed by Alfonso Bialetti in 1930. Mazzuoli evokes Bialetti’s simple and essential design in the Moka writing instrument.

The Moka pen is made manually from a solid bar of aluminum. While the Moka pen can either be a rollerball or a ballpoint pen, the Moka 3 is inter-changeable and can be a rollerball, ballpoint or a fountain pen.

The Mokina and the Officina Mini are evolutions of the Moka and Officina writing instruments. These new products are true to the form and high-quality of the larger-dimension pens.

Mazzuoli recently turned his attention to designing wristwatches and has garnered a considerable amount of success in this area. 3.6.5 Design by Giuliano Mazzuoli will continue to introduce innovative and different products, available in the finest pen and specialty shops in the world.
