Kaweco

Kaweco is among the oldest brands of writing instruments. Since 1883, the former Heidelberg company has been known for product development and innovations. Pioneers in safety fountain pens, in 1911, the company also produced what probably was the world’s first refillable felt-tip pen. Kaweco also may well have been the first to use injection molding for the production of writing instruments. Today, the company is one of several brands of writing instruments owned by Gutberlet of Nürnberg, Germany.

The Product
The secret of the brand’s success is in its unique and original developments. Kaweco, at the time known as the Heidelberg dip pen factory, Koch, Weber, and Co., began by importing English and American writing nibs and fountain pens. But its developments in piston-pull and tube fountain pens, and above all in the safety fountain pen, were so significant that the imported goods soon lost all importance. The Stylo ink-filling pen was a further innovation; it wrote with a small metal tube, its ink flow controlled by an adjustable needle.

KAWECO KING 2006 limited edition of 300 pieces
In the 1920s and ‘30s the best Kaweco pens had a crown on their cap as a mark of their high quality. Today the German pen maker has created the Kaweco KING, a hand made celluloid fountain pen which is most appealing because  of its solid and impressive senior size and huge personality. The KING is a lever-filler with a two-tone solid 18-karat golden nib. The amazing gold nibs are available in two extraordinary versions. Crown, clip and lever, which are made of solid silver plated with 18-karat gold, harmonize perfectly with the elegantly marbled brown-golden color of the celluloid.

Writing Art
The Kaweco Art Sport is the name of a new series in the popular “Sport” style, presented in vivid colors. The material is hand-mixed acrylic; each pen is a unique piece, and each has a 14-karat gold nib. The first four designs are named for musical styles: Blues, Mambo, Samba, and Tango. Closed, the pens are only 10.5cm long; capped, 14cm—thus they are suitable for every size hand. The slide-on clip is either chrome- or gold-plated, depending on the color of the acrylic. The Kaweco Art Sport comes in a soft matte-black box.
