Laban
The Laban Pen Corporation, under the Thong Yeong Corporation, is located in Taipei. Founded by John Hu in 1981, it started as an export company specializing in stationery, gifts and writing instruments. Hu has a passion for writing instruments, and this led him to partner with his brother Charles to build a manufacturing plant. The Laban factory, located in the suburbs of Taipei, quickly developed into the pioneering Taiwanese firm producing the highest quality silver and platinum-plated writing instruments. Laban began producing beautiful and traditional overlay pens in their Filigree line in May of 1993 and thus became the first Taiwanese pen manufacturer to utilize the etching process in pen manufacturing.
As a long-time supplier to Europe, Laban is well recognized for both the design and high quality of its products. The company has also introduced its line to the Middle East, Canada and South America, growing into a global supplier. Laban registered its U.S. trademarks, and starting in March of 1995, introduced its fine line of pens and mechanical pencils to the American market via its Southern California headquarters in Huntington Beach. Laban delivers through the expert support of its exclusive contracted agents worldwide, and the company is also proud to produce exclusive designs for special private labeling needs. From 1997 to 1999, Laban was selected to be the exclusive manufacturer of the Vatican Museum line of pens, producing the Museum’s stunning and unique designs. The next Laban milestone the Lewis & Clark Award for Best Writing Instrument of 2004 that it received from the Royal Academy of Arts in the United Kingdom. It was awarded to Laban by the Lord Chancellor of England under the authority of Her Majesty the Queen for the luxurious Dragon fountain pen.

Laban fountain pens are available with several levels of superb quality Bock nibs from Germany, including smooth writing iridium-tipped steel nibs in fine, medium and broad sizes. An upgrade is available for most fountain pens to a 14- or 18-karat gold nib in medium for a nominal fee. Most fountain pens come with a cartridge or converter filling system.
