Marlen was founded in 1982 by Mario Esposito, Managing Director and Antonio Esposito, Design Manager. Marlen’s exclusive luxury artisan writing instruments are “designed to be different”. They are unique high-quality handmade limited edition collections, created by using master-craftsmen’s original forms of expressive art. Marlen’s prestigious collections have become collectors’ prized possessions all over the world. Over twenty years of innovative designs have reflected the cultural, historical, technological and artistic movements of yesterday and the current day. Mario Esposito, who is the dynamic entrepreneur behind the company’s worldwide marketing strategies, has successfully used his vast commercial knowledge, marketing flamboyancy and excellent public relations skills to continually expand and increase the company’s distribution ratio and make Marlen’s writing instruments today an honour and privilege to own. 

Antonio Esposito, who designs his masterpieces of handmade artisan craftsmanship, obtained his inspiration from the “Corinthian Capital” that throughout the centuries has supported the vaults and arches of Ancient Greece and has withstood the infinite test of time. The Corinthian Capital forms the basis of and brings to life the distinct “Marlen Clip”.

Marlen’s two directors are backed up by a team of dedicated artisan goldsmiths, who take the ultimate pride in their work and are renowned for their excellent team spirit. For example, the ROBB REPORT in 2003 recognized Marlen’s CADRAN SOLAIRE limited edition fountain pen as the BEST OF THE BEST. CADRAN SOLAIRE, a sun-dial pen, is not only a work of art, but a technical-scientific instrument dedicated to the measurement of time. This trend continued with the creation of the STYLO LUNAIRE, STYLO ASTROLOGIE, and the watch NORTHMATIC, Marlen’s debut in the field of watches HAUTE DE GAMME. Elegance and culture
Marlen writing instruments obtain their inspiration from architectural beauty, poetic brilliance, and historic importance and many of our precious collections have been dedicated to some of the greatest personalities of the artistic, cultural and literary worlds.  In 2001 Marlen completed the Official G8 pen. In 2005 we dedicated a pen to the European Parliament. The inspiration for the creation of the collection ANTICA ATELLA was taken from our local history and dedicated to the origins of our territory. Moreover we have dedicated pens to other important ancient civilizations for the collections Maya, Aztlan, Ithaca, Egizia, Antica Roma, and Atellan Tales. Many famous personalities in all professions own a precious Marlen product:  for example, the nobel laureate Dario Fò owns a Maccus inspired by a mask of the Atellan territory; and the famous Italian actor Arnoldo Foà received a Journal on the occasion of his 90th birthday during a talk show presented by renowned Italian journalist and anchorman Maurizio Costanzo.

One of the Italian Presidents, Carlo Azeglio Ciampi and the nobel laureate Rita Levi Montalcini both own Marlen writing instruments.

Marlen pens have also found their way into movies with the choice by a Japanese production house of a Marlen pen for the creation of a movie scene. Marlen received a similar request for the production of the movie, the DA VINCI CODE.

Marlen writing instruments are all handmade. Other noteworthy features are the 3D working process, the button filling system, the lateral filling system with key or coin and a recent patent for the placement of the cap on the barrel, screwing into the lower part of the barrel.

Primary materials
The primary raw materials used are carefully selected and are always used in a way that highlights the perfect image and theme of the pen. We use celluloid, acetates, ebonite, ivory,  solid .750/18Kt yellow, white and rose gold, Solid .925 Sterling Silver, solid .950 platinum, titanium, acrylic resins, special hand-painted lacquers, original briarwood and ebony.

Particular collections have been achieved with sophisticated primary materials like Lapis Lazuli and the renowned coral from Torre del Greco.

Unique
Hand-crafted in Italy, writing instruments are available as ball points, roller balls and fountain pens, which have 18kt EF, F, M, B & BB nibs. These pay homage to important historical themes that underscore our company’s firm beliefs, thus making the art of writing smooth and effortless and each pen a unique tool to have the pleasure of owning.
