Filofax

The origins of Filofax reach to World War I, when an Englishman, working in the United States, came across an American organizing system consisting mostly of technical forms for engineers and scientists. A mail-order company, based in London, was formed shortly thereafter to market personal organization systems in the United Kingdom. In 1930, the trademark Filofax was registered, the name a derivation of “file of facts.” The brand garnered a strong following, especially among the military and the clergy, and at one point Filofax was a mandatory purchase at the British Army Staff College in Camberley.
In 1976, a business named Pocketfax was formed by two fans of Filofax to market the brand, as well as other products. In 1980, they purchased the company. By 1987, the company had a retail network of 1,250 outlets in the United Kingdom alone, with many others in the world’s major cities. In 2001, the Letts Filofax Group was formed after Charles Letts and Company Ltd. acquired the Filofax Group.
Nowadays, Filofax offers a full range of traditional and contemporary leather accessories, including diaries, personal organizers, handbags, briefcases, wallets, and purses in a variety of sizes, shapes, colors, and materials. The company also offers pens to fit many of its organizers, paper refills for its organizers, and software designed to keep your Filofax address section up-to-date. This program can store up to 10,000 names that can be easily transferred from any other program that can export files in CSV (Comma Separated Value) format. Once the database is ready, your information may be printed onto Filofax laser paper. Filofax also offers Print-To-File software that converts normal documents into Filofax-fitting documents, such as spreadsheets, important emails, maps and directions, and flight and hotel confirmations. Each page is preserved exactly in its original format; the software just shrinks it down to fit in a Filofax.
