Swedish inventor Gustav Widström graduated from The Swedish Royal Institute of Technology as a Structural Engineer before embarking on a solo round-the-world tour which inspired a deeper interest in humanites. This led to further studies in education and the science of public health, and ultimately, the creation of the beautiful Fjäder ballpoint pen.
Inspired to create something different but necessary, a small piece of waterlogged oak shaped like a bird’s feather was to become the focus of concentration in the design element of this unique pen. Gustav worked with a product designer to create a pen resembling a feather and the finished product, the Fjäder pen, resembles a traditional feather quill pen. The finishing touch in the creative process is that the pen is designed to stand and almost hover in its holder. This way, the pen is not only a work of art, but serves as a functional tool.
So much thought has gone into the design, creation, and production of the Fjäder ballpoint pen. It is popular among those who have a passion for design innovation and quality and those who appreciate simplistic practicality and the pleasure of writing with a uniquely designed writing instrument. 
The Fjäder pen is exclusively distributed in the United States by pen distribution company Coles of London based in Boca Raton, Florida, and the models available include Fjäder in a stand, which is ideal for a desk top, and Fjäder with a cap for those who like the option of transporting their favorite pen. Fjäder with a stand is available in a choice of colors including coal, midnight blue, and iron, and retails at $40, while an elegant high-shine chrome finish retails at $50. Fjäder with a cap is available in tar, snow, and strawberry colors, and retails at $20, while a black and chrome finish retails at $25. Fjäder pens take a standard D1 Schmidt refill.
